Cape Hatteras Weather Forecasts
There is a saying on the Outer Banks, "If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes." That's how quickly the weather changes on these barrier islands. The waters are warmer on Hatteras Island due to our proximity to the Gulf Stream waters. And the winds on Hatteras Island are a little stronger since it sits as much as 40 miles off the mainland coast. That is why Hatteras is a mecca for windsurfers and kiteboarders as well as fishermen.
The Outer Banks does experience tropical weather from time to time, but not every year. The season for tropical storms is from June through November, but the chances for tropical weather are higher from mid August through mid October.
